pond Portfolio xiii
frank's Pond, don mills, 2007
Background
This pond was constructed in 2007. It was a fresh build and measures close to
20 feet long, about 9 feet wide and close to 6 feet deep. It has a bottom drain which feeds an external 4' vortex. There is a 90 gallon rotating media filter [pictured above] with kaldnes. A polishing tank with reticulated foam feeds the
dolphin 4200 pump. The air compressor feeds both the filter and the pond
The koi got
a new lease on life when they were moved from their indoor 120 tank to this nice sized pond. They spawned this past year. The pond is covered with a
greenhouse for the winter
Equipment
4 foot vortex | dolphin 4200 | rotating media filter w/ kaldnes | air compressor
dave's Pond, oakville, 2007
Background
This was a new build and very tough digging conditions being clay interspersed with layers of slate. We also had to put in a french drain. Dave placed most of the waterfall stone himself as he originally had an idea for a model train but that has not yet materialized
I just revisited this pond for the first time this past week [Sept 2010] and everything has grown in nicely and the fish have put on lots of size. The water looked great and Dave is obviously performing regular maintenance The pond is 5 feet deep and approx. 6 x 12
Equipment
4" bottom drain | 48 " vortex | Rotating Media Filter w/Kaldnes | Polishing Filter w/reticulate Foam | Dolphin Pump | Savio Skimmer w/Dophin Pump | Air Compressor returning L of waterfalls
keith's Pond, toronto, 2008
Background
This pond was
another rebuilt landscaper pond. The landscaper did install 6" x 6" to support the waterfall which was well done. But the client
wasn't so happy with the waterfall and the filtration. We build this pond in the spring of 2008 and had to deal with water which always slows things down
We installed a
bottom drain and an external 2 chamber filter system comprising of a 30" settlement tank and a bio chamber. The shape was changed and all the rock work redone
We boarded Keiths fish for the Winter of 2007, but with this new deeper pond and the greenhouse covering, his fish will do fine in the pond for the winter
Equipment
4" bottom drain | 30" vortex | Bio chamber w/bio balls + reticulated foam | submersible pump
